Regulations

on holding the Republican Composers Contest

dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Gaziza Zhubanova

(November 11 - December 7), Almaty

 

1. Founders and organizers:

Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory.


2. Venue of the contest:

Almaty, Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory.


3. Goals and objectives of the contest:

- search, support and assistance in the professional development of talented composers;

- stimulation of composer creativity;

- creation of a favorable environment for interaction between the composer and the audience;

- promotion of academic and contemporary music;

- attracting potential applicants to study at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory.

 

4. Participants of the contest:

4.1. Professional composers, students of higher and secondary specialized musical educational institutions.

4.2. Age group: 18 to 30 years old (at the time of application).

 

5. For the event are created:

Organizing Committee.

The general management of the contest, its organization and conduct are carried out by the organizing committee. Within the framework of the tasks set, the organizing committee performs the following functions:

- forms the concept of the contest;

- organizes the collection of applications for participation in the contest;

- organizes work on checking the submission of applications to the requirements and conditions of the contest;

- organizes the work on registration of participants of the contest;

- rejects applications that do not meet the requirements of the contest regulations;

- forms the composition of the jury members, as well as coordinates their work;

- organizes the work on rewarding the winners.

The organizing committee has the right to make the necessary changes during the program of the contest.

 

Jury:

To evaluate the performances juries, which include active composers, leading teachers of musical educational institutions.

Jury:

- Evaluates and selects materials sent to the first round of the contest;

- Evaluates composition in the second round and awards prizes and special prizes.

 

6. Terms, order and conditions of the contest.

6.1. The contest is held by the organizers in two rounds:

Round 1 - from 11 to 14 November, 2022

Round 2 - from November 15 to December 06, 2022

Awarding of laureates - December 07, 2022

6.2. The first round (qualifying) is held online format. For qualifying audition, you must send a high-quality audio or video recording, as well as musical material (in pdf format). Materials must be submitted no later than November 10 (inclusive). The jury decides on the admission of participants to the second round of the contest. The results of the qualifying round will be published on the website of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory on November 14.

Second round (offline):

1. listening to compositions that have passed the qualifying round;

2. listening to a musical composition for the proposed video sequence (this composition must be sent before December 2 (inclusive)).

For the second round, the presence of the participant is obligatory. The jury reserves the right to ask questions about the submitted compositions.

6.3. The winners of the contest are determined only by the results of the full-time audition by secret ballot of the jury members. The decision of the jury is not subject to appeal.

6.4. The contest is held in the following categories:

1. Chamber instrumental music (solo compositions, duets, trios, quartets). The maximum number of tools is four. The participant can submit one work lasting from 3 to 7 minutes.

2. Electronic music with obligatory use of ethnic or acoustic instruments. A participant can submit one work lasting from 3 to 7 minutes (it is obligatory to provide musical text in pdf format or a draft composition, as well as an audio or video recording).

6.5. Previously awarded works are not allowed to participate in the contest.

6.6. Participation in one or two nominations (1 round) is allowed. Prize-winning place is awarded only in one of the nominations, by the decision of the jury.

6.7. Contest materials sent by participants will not be sent back.

6.8. Applications are accepted from September 26 to November 10, 2022 inclusive.

6.9. There is no entry fee for participation.

6.10. All participants of the contest submit their works anonymously (under the motto). If the contestant participates in several nominations, then the motto on all scores must be the same.

 

7. Documents.

7.1. Until November 10, 2022 (inclusive), contestants provide the following materials by e-mail:

- An application filled out according to the form (Appendix No. 1) in electronic form (Microsoft Office Word Document) in doc / docx format (document with the possibility of copying information). Until the decision of the jury for the 1st round, all information about the author of the work remains confidential.

- Composition submitted for the contest: 1. Musical material in pdf format, one piece in one file; the authorship of the composer is indicated under the motto (incognito). 

2. Demonstration audio or video recording.

- A copy of the passport or certificate confirming the date of birth.

7.2. A complete package of documents (an application, a copy of a passport or certificate, essay) is submitted strictly by one letter per competitor and must be sent to the following postal address: competitionknc@gmail.com

7.3. Applications sent after the specified deadline will not be considered by the Organizing Committee.

7.4. The organizing committee does not return copies of documents sent to the contest and is not responsible for errors or inaccuracies of information in the application.

7.5. Materials that do not meet the above conditions or sent without a demo recording will not be considered.

7.6. All participants of the contest will be notified of the results of the qualifying round by e-mail after November 14, 2022 (the results can be found on the website of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory).

7.7. On November 15, the contestants who passed the qualifying round will be sent a video to participate in the second stage by e-mail.

7.8. Accommodation, transport and travel expenses of the participants of the contest at the expense of the sending party.

 

8. Summarizing procedure:

8.1. The entries of the contestants are evaluated in accordance with the criteria presented in paragraph 6.

8.2. Summing up is carried out on December 06, 2022, the results will be published on the website of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory.

8.3. The awarding of the winners of the contest will take place on December 7, 2022 at a concert (Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory; Great Hall named after Rakhmadiev; 18:00). The best works that won prizes will be performed at the concert.

8.4. The total prize fund is 950 000 tenge. Of them:

Grand Prix of the contest – 450 000 tenge;

Laureate of the 1st degree – 250 000 tenge;

Laureate of the 2nd degree – 150 000 tenge;

Laureate of the 3rd degree – 100 000 tenge;

Diploma of the contest – diploma.

By decision of the jury members, participants can be awarded special diplomas.
