Alexey Kotelnikov was born on September 27, 1957 in the Ilek village, Orenburg Region, into a family of teachers. Alexey had a craving for the accordion instrument since his childhood. At the school where he began to study after his family moved to Uralsk, where he studied in the accordion circle under the direction of V.V.Novykova and played in the amateur talent group. In 1974, he entered the Uralsk Music School in the class of N.G.Novenkova.
His first creative experience A.R. Kotelnikov received in 1974-75, when he was engaged in the processing of Russian folk dances and songs. In those same years, he tried to create independent works for the Russian Instruments Orchestra. In 1978, he graduated from college and entered the Almaty Conservatory in the class of the teacher S.S.Seytkhanova. Communication with students and composers of the Almaty Conservatory, amateur composers V.Solodovnikov, I.Kim and V.Yachmenev gave A.R.Kotelnikov a powerful impetus for his further creative activity. He composed a number of works but most of them were lost and forgotten due to circumstances. In 1983, he completed his studies at the Almaty Conservatory in the class of V.Evdokimenko. After graduating from the Conservatory, he worked at the music school №2 in Uralsk city. He was engaged in the development of teaching aids for music schools, exercises and studies for the button accordion.
In 2000, A.R.Kotelnikov was involved in the last century’s late 80s and early 90s manuscripts and drafts restoration works. At the same time, his first sonatas, suites, and impromptu etudes were composed. In 2005-2006, he wrote pop music for various ensembles.
In 2012, the composer released the first collection of own compositions with selected works for the button accordion at his own expense in Russia. Several subsequent collections were released by his efforts afterwards. But he doesn't stop there.
Currently, A.R.Kotelnikov lives in Engels city, Saratov Region. But he is still together with his Kazakhstani friends and colleagues in his soul, as well as with that city in Kazakhstan which connected him with music for the rest of his life.
Thanks to his talent, Alexey Rufovich created many works. His composing skills which contributed to the emergence of his own brilliant works, became a great example for many people of art.
