Farewell to Galiya Begembetova
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Galiya Begembetova — a prominent musicologist, PhD in Arts, Associate Professor, educator, scholar, and administrator who dedicated her entire life to the development of national music education and science.
Having received an outstanding education in Kazakhstan, Galiya Begembetova graduated from the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory with a degree in Musicology and later completed postgraduate studies and a research internship at the M. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art. In 1996, she defended her candidate dissertation and since then remained one of the most respected representatives of the Kazakhstani school of musicology.
Her professional path was closely tied to the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory, where she taught students, inspired colleagues, and took part in academic administration for more than two decades. Galiya Begembetova served not only as a Professor in the Department but also as the Dean of the Faculty of Musicology and Management, Vice-Rector for Educational Work, and later, Vice-Rector for Research, Creative Activities, and International Cooperation. Her contribution to the development of the conservatory is immeasurable.
But above all, Galiya Begembetova will be remembered as a person of exceptional kindness, heartfelt generosity, and inner light. Her openness, refined musical sensibility, and ability to inspire and support made her a beloved mentor to generations of students and a true authority within the academic community.
The teaching staff and academic staff of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory, along with all those who had the privilege of knowing Galiya Begembetova personally, grieve this loss and extend their sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.
