Flashmob for Dombra Day

In the morning of June 27, 2018, students and teachers of the faculty of folk music arranged a musical flashmob on the square in front of the Grand Concert Hall of the Conservatory.

The legendary Kurmangazy kuys - "Balbrauyn", "Aday", "Saryarka", as well as "Biy Kui" by Ahmet Zhubanov were performed by young virtuosos and coryphaeuses from the dombra department. Together with students there played well-known musicians - Sakharbaeva Karima, Ulkenbaeva Aigul, Iskakov Bilyal, Sadykov Salimgirey.

Sakharbayeva Karima, dean of the folk music faculty: "The decree of the head of state on the Dombra Day became an important event not only for the musical community, but for the country as a whole. Dombra is closely connected with the history of Kazakhs. And in difficult and happy days people always turned to dombra, by sounds telling about important events and distress. Undoubtedly, the holiday will be like an impulse for new surveys and creative searches, will cause wide interest. Congratulations to everyone!"

The National Dombra Day will be held for the first time in Kazakhstan on July 1, 2018. The holiday was established on the initiative of the Head of State.

A little bit of history...

The faculty of folk music, specifically, the department of dombra, was opened on the basis of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory (then the Alma-Ata Conservatory) in 1945 with Akhmet Kuanovich Zhubanov.

In different years, the department of dombra was taught by outstanding kuishi and performers of the country. Among them: Kali Zhantliuov, Lukpan Mukhitov, Nurgisa Tlendiyev, Malgazhdar Aubakirov, Karshyga Ahmedyarov, etc. At the moment, Karim Sakharbayev, Aigul Ulkenbaeva, Bilyal Iskakov, associate professors Sadikov Salimgirey, Abdulkhamit Raimbergenov, etc. pass their knowledge to the beginning performers.

On the basis of the faculty of folk music there are different creative teams. So, the folklore and ethnographic ensemble "Saryn", ensembles of Dombrists and kobyzists conduct active concert activity. The special pride of the conservatory is the orchestra of Kazakh folk instruments, whose conductor is Abylai Tlepbergenov.
