DSU

What is DSU?

DSU (Diritto allo Studio Universitario) Scholarship is a program offered by the Italian government. Translated literally, the name of the scholarship means "right to study at university." It is designed for prospective students from low-income families. Both local students and foreigners can apply for this scholarship.

The DSU covers the following expenses

·         Tuition fees.

·         Free accommodation in a dormitory or financial support for renting accommodation.

·         Free meals in university cafeterias.

·         Allowance for personal expenses such as study materials, sports equipment for members of university teams, and so on.

The amount of the allowance varies depending on the region and the financial situation of the applicant. It can reach up to 7000 EUR.

Even if a student does not win the scholarship but meets the requirements, they receive:

1.      Meal vouchers for free dining.

2.      Exemption from tax payments.

3.      A room in a dormitory for 273 USD per month, if there are available spaces.

The amount of the scholarship and specific benefits from DSU depend on the region in Italy. Please check the conditions on the official websites of regional DSU programs.

Requirements

DSU scholarship is awarded based on the financial situation. To participate in the competition, you need to confirm that the student's family income is less than 25,073 USD per year. This will reduce the tuition fee and provide a range of benefits, including a free room in a dormitory and meals. If the income is below 13,082 USD per year, the student will receive full coverage of tuition fees, all benefits, and an allowance of up to 7631 USD per year.

To apply for the DSU scholarship, the following documents are usually required

·         Copy of the passport.

·         Family composition certificate, obtainable from the Public Service Center (PSC).

·         Income statement for each family member for the last year, for example, 2-NDFL (tax return on personal income).

·         Bank statements for each family member.

·         Certificate of movable and immovable property, including a certificate from the Unified State Register of Real Estate (ЕГРН) and from the tax authorities.

·         Letter of admission to the university or pre-admission letter - sometimes required, but not always.
