І THE CREATIVE EXAM OF SPECIALTY

consists of 2 parts - presentation of own compositions and colloquium.

1.   Presentation of own compositions (at least 3 compositions):

2.   Compositions must be for different instruments with/without piano accompaniment; in simple or complex forms and genres (dances, plays, preludes, variations, suites, etc.);

– the third composition - for voice with accompaniment (song, romance, ballad, choral composition).

Writing Requirements:

·        All works are provided in the form of a neatly typed clavier or score (by hand or in any music editor).

·        An audio recording of the work (live performance or computer performance) or a live video recording (illustrator) is provided.

·        The performance of one of his own compositions by the author himself on any instrument (video recording) or in a live performance is welcome.

 

Assessment criteria I of

creative exam in the specialty for applicants

 

Criteria of evaluation:

33-45 points (excellent): – performance by heart of own compositions on any instrument at a high level or a clean computer recording; audio or video recording without interference and technical errors; correct notation of the composer's idea; clavier or score in good quality; explanation of the concept of composed works; correct use of musical terminology and excellent knowledge of musical literature.

19-32 points (good): – difficulties in performing their own compositions and explaining the concept of composed works; writing compositions of average quality; minor technical errors in the notation of works, the correct use of musical terminology and a good knowledge of musical literature.

5-18 points (satisfactory): – satisfactory recording of compositions; clavier or score with errors; audio or video recording of poor quality; difficulties in explaining the concept of composed works. Satisfactory knowledge of musical terminology and musical literature.

0-4 points (unsatisfactory): – no audio or video recording; poor condition of the clavier or score; many technical errors in the notation; poor knowledge in musical terminology and musical literature.

Colloquium of Musical Literature – the knowledge of foreign, Kazakh, Russian-Soviet music and the most famous works of modern, foreign and Kazakh composers.

Criteria of evaluation: the sense of form, associative-figurative thinking, musical-theoretical training, general outlook, improvisation.

 

ІІ CREATIVE EXAM OF MUSICAL AND THEORETICAL DISCIPLINES

Comprehensive Music Theory Exam includes written exams in Harmony and Solfeggio

Harmony – In writing: a one-tone task in the form of a period with deviations in related keys, using alteration, with non-chord sounds.

Solfeggio – In writing: 3-voice dictation of a harmonic warehouse with modulation in the I degree of kinship.

 

Evaluation criteria for the II-creative exam

in musical-theoretical disciplines

 

Criteria of evaluation:

33-45 points (excellent): – absolutely correct writing of the solfeggio dictation, definition of tonality, size, number of measures, direction of modulation; the correct solution of the problem of harmony in terms of building chords, voice leading, modulation direction, functional logic.

19-32 points (good): – correct definition of tonality, size, number of measures, direction of modulation, the presence of minor pitch and rhythmic errors in the solfeggio dictation; a good solution to the problem of harmony in terms of building chords, the direction of modulation, functional logic, the presence of minor errors in voice leading and tonality deviations.

5-18 points (satisfactory): – errors in determining the tonality, size, number of measures, the direction of modulation in the solfeggio dictation; a mediocre solution to the problem of harmony - determining the direction of modulation, but errors in voice leading, chord building, functional logic, tonality of deviations, determination of cadences.

0-4 points (unsatisfactory): – lack of skills in writing a solfeggio dictation and solving a harmony problem.
