6B02117 – CONDUCTING


  The previous levels of education of applicants for admission to the educational program «6B02117 – Conducting», regardless of the specialty received, may be:
1. music college (choral conducting, music education), specialized music school;
2. college of arts, humanitarian and pedagogical college;
3. variety and circus school; cultural and educational school;
4. higher educational institutions (obtaining a second higher education – on a fee basis).

 

І. CREATIVE EXAM IN THE SPECIALTY
Specialization «Choral conducting»:


1. Program execution:
- conducting two contrasting compositions (one – a cappella, the second – with accompaniment);
- playing the piano choral score.
2. Auditory analysis (intervals, chords, modulations in the key of the 1st degree of kinship).
3. The Colloquium includes questions:
- according to the biography, creativity of the composers of the program being performed (characteristics of the composer's style, genre, work);
- general musical outlook on musical and theoretical disciplines and choral literature.
  Specialization «Opera and symphonic conducting»:
1. Program execution:
- conducting two works of different character (part of a symphony, overture, poem);
- playing piano compositions of the commission's choice (by heart);
2. Auditory analysis (intervals, chords, modulations in the key of the 1st degree of kinship).
3. The Colloquium includes questions:
- according to the biography, creativity of the composers of the program being performed (characteristics of the composer's style, genre, work);
- general musical outlook on musical and theoretical disciplines and opera and symphonic literature.

Criteria for evaluating
creative exams for applicants
I – creative exam


  Score 33-45 points:
The applicant must demonstrate the presence of vivid musical data, mastery of all the techniques of manual technique, fluency in the instrument, competent reading of the author's text, awareness of the content of the work, broad horizons, in-depth knowledge of the history of music and performing arts.
Score 19-32 points:
The applicant must demonstrate the presence of good musical data, mastery of manual techniques, sufficient mastery of the instrument, a meaningful reading of the author's text, awareness of the content of the work, meaningful, but not complete answers at the colloquium.
Score 5-18 points:
The applicant must demonstrate the presence of average musical data and playing an instrument, a weak understanding of the style and content of the performed works, limited horizons and weak answers at the colloquium.
Score 0-4 points:
The applicant has no musical data and possession of an instrument. The program does not meet the requirements for admission. Poor knowledge of colloquium issues.

ІІ. CREATIVE EXAM
IN MUSICAL AND THEORETICAL DISCIPLINES
  Specialization «Choral conducting»:


Harmony – orally by tickets (playing modulation of the 1st degree of kinship, sequences, harmonic analysis).
Solfeggio – written (2-voice dictation)
  Specialization «Opera and Symphonic conducting»:
Harmony – in writing: a one-tone task in the form of a period with deviations in related tonalities, using alterations, with non-chord sounds.
Solfeggio – in writing: a 3-voice dictation of a harmonic warehouse with modulation to the I degree of kinship.
  Criteria for evaluating
creative exams for applicants
II – creative exam
  33-45 points:
Absolutely correct dictation recording; in-depth knowledge of the topics of the theoretical course of harmony; precise definition of functions in harmonic analysis; fluency in the skill of playing modulation and sequences.
19-32 points:
The presence of insignificant pitch and rhythmic errors in dictation; good knowledge of the topics of the theoretical course of harmony; good command of the skill of playing modulation and sequences.
5-18 points:
Significant mistakes in writing dictation; average knowledge of the topics of the theoretical course of harmony; inaccurate definition of functions in harmonic analysis; insufficient skills and abilities of playing modulations and constructing sequences.
0-4 points:
Lack of dictation writing skills, playing modulations and sequences; low level of knowledge of the topics of the theoretical course of harmony.
