History of the department

The Alma-Ata Conservatoire named after Kurmangazy was organized on the model of the Moscow and Leningrad conservatories in October 1, 1944 that include the department of Vocal Art. During the Great War outstanding artists were evacuated in Alma-Ata from Moscow.

The first staff of the department included A.M. Kurganov, S.S. Korobov, A.V. Gutsalovskaya, A.K. Mizonov. S.S. Kotlyar, N.F. Nagulina, N.N Samyzhkina. Their work in Kazakhstan significantly influenced the formation of the phenomenon of a new Kazakh culture, which in a short time absorbed the cultural traditions of Europe, through the prism of the Russian culture, without losing the national identity at the same time. One of the first graduates of the department were B.B. Zhilisbaev, R.U. Jamanova, E.B. Serkebaev, B.A. Tulegenova, N.A. Sharipova, N.D. Yumasheva, K.I. Boboshko, subsequently managed to create a cohesive pedagogical team of like-minded people who carried out creative, teaching and scientific-methodical activity at the highest professional level.

For 79 years of fruitful work, the Department of Solo Singing has brought up a whole galaxy of opera singers, philharmonic soloists, choir artists of various musical groups and teachers of solo singing in secondary and higher musical educational institutions. Among the graduates of the department there are 5 people's artists of the USSR, about 50 people's artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, more than 300 laureates and diplomats of various international vocal competitions.

Since 2021, the head of the Department of "Vocal Art" is a senior lecturer T.K. Beknazarova. People's Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor G.K. Yessimov, People's Artist of Mongolia, Professor Kabylash Abykey-uly, Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan B.K. Kozhabaev, Honored Workers of the Republic of Kazakhstan - U.M. Kenzhebekov, B.S. Bukenov, G.B.Daurbaeva, D.M.Khamzina, J.K. Baspakova, B.K. Zhubaeva, Laureate of the State Prize T.P.Kuzembayev, Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.K. Shalabaev, associate professors -Zh.M. Mekenbayeva, R.A. Smilova, V.G. Shaplyko, S.A. Brinyuk, G.A. Nurgalieva, S.A. Nurgalieva, T.A.Smilova, senior teachers-J.B. Bayneshov, A.A. Yusupova, I.U. Sadykova, teachers -J.K. Amanova, E.H. Dyusebaev, S.H. Grateful, E.V.Smolyanina, D.B. Akimbayeva, K.A.Ismailov, A.B.Katova, T.B.Rakhmetov, N.K.Kuldanov, etc .

Among the talented graduates are such bright artists as Shakhimardan Abilov, Alibek Dnishev, Nurzhamal Usembayeva, Mayra Mukhamedkyzy, Murat Shalabayev, Jamila Baspakova, Gulzat Daurbayeva, Balapan Zhubayeva, Talgat Musabayev, Andrey Tregubenko, Talgat Kuzembayev, Medet Chotabayev, Kayyrzhan Zholdybayev, Dina Khamzina, Zhupar Gabdullina, Lada Kysykova, Anastasia Kozhukharova, Sarah Naiman, Zhamilya Zharkimbayeva, etc.

Over the period of many years of work, the department has developed valuable pedagogical guidelines, which are set out in the methodological works of teachers. A curriculum, a standard program with applications of the repertoire list for all voices have been developed, methodological recommendations have been written.

The older generation of teachers provides methodological assistance to young teachers of the department. Wise mentors ignite the fire of creative personality from the spark of students' talent and warm young souls with their love and kindness, at the same time, remaining strict and demanding teachers. Graduates, along with the acquired knowledge and skills of vocal and performing culture, carry with them love, devotion and respect for their teachers.

Decades of fruitful work of the department have become a solid foundation for the formation of a modern national vocal school and its success in Kazakhstan and in the world.
